Both volume I and II cover the voyage of the French expedition, led by Nicolas Baudin, from 1800 to 1804, When it visited King Island, the coast of Western Australia and New South Wales. There is an interesting study of the elephant seal and lively accounts of meetings with indigenous people. There is also Péron's account of the well-known encounter between the Baudin and Flinders expeditions off the coast of South Australia.
