The Dissertations contain a translation of the scientific papers which constitute Book V of Péron's Voyage of discovery to the southern lands.
Among these, of particular interest, is Leschenault´s paper on the botany of Tasmania and the parts of the mainland which he visited. Others papers written by François Péron deal with ways to determine the temperature of the sea at different depths, various aspects of Australian wild life and the treatment of dysentery.
