Revolution in the Home - The Simpsons of Adelaide 1853-1986 133 Years of Manufacturing
Simpson started out with just four men and a boy in 1853 and over the next 133 years grew to become Australia’s largest manufacturer of washing machines, dishwashers and stoves. The company survived world wars and the Great Depression, while negotiating government policy changes and intense competition.
Through the lens of Moxon Simpson’s witty and insightful diaries we witness how Simpson held in its hands the fate of thousands of workers while struggling to balance the demands of unions and shareholders and the practicalities of running a manufacturing business in one of Australia’s more remote cities.
Moxon’s son, Antony took his now invaluable writings and has made them the foundation of this book.
